photos or documents tied to a person, or Unlike FTM2012, Legacy doesn't limit you to a single media folder.īut if there are media files in that you want to have in TNG, whether they be Again, you have to upload your Legacy media subfolders to TNG. Legacy (like FTM2012) can export its links to a Gedcom file (that doesn't need to be converted). You also have to upload your media files from the single FTM2012 media folder folder to your TNG media folder, but you don't have to change any filenames for the media links to work. Of course, that takes care of the media links, not media files. Thus, as far as I know, FTM2014 users who have images inside FTM2014 that they want to use in TNG must export an FTM2012 database, then import that database into FTM2012, and only then can they export a Gedcom file that can be imported to TNG (after it has been converted as described at /wiki/index.php/Desktop_gotchas#Gedcom_Converter_Utilities It has been my understanding that Gedcom files created by FTM2014 also do not produce usable OBJE tags. So if you want to use images that are inside, you just can't. I just confirmed that when you create a Gedcom directly from, OBJE (Multimedia Object) tags exist only at Level 1 in INDI and FAM records, and their subordinate FILE tags contain URLs that link to scripts inside, andĪ) are thus only accessible by subscribers, andī) cannot be matched to files and filenames through any process I can figure out. Richard - I'm sorry that I didn't see your posting. I hope that someone on this forum can share experiences that have direct relevance to technical issues associated with export/import of data between Ancestry, FTM, Legacy, and TNG.
My question relates to the integrity of the export/import process itself. Finally, the integrity of the data I referred to in my original question is irrelevant to the question itself. But I make no apologies for saving records that I believe may provide useful for further research but which do not completely meet the standards of more serious family historians. I always review data and sources that I retrieve from other sources for their credibility before I merge that data with my trees. The data residing in my trees are in large part based on data I have personally compiled and verified to the best of my ability using sources that I believe to be relatively reliable. However, it is my experience that the same can be said of many well known repositories of user compiled genealogical data. I agree that much of the data residing on ancestry is of questionable accuracy.
Thanks for taking the time to share your views on the integrity of data residing on.
